“a woman walks into a bar…” at Bagatelle for a rather exciting Sunday brunch
on 16/10/14 at 11:58 ama woman walks into a bar...
I lead a quiet life. I live in the hills where the most annoying noise is a cricket choir. When I get dressed up, I change my t-shirt and pants to…a t-shirt and pants. When I go out to Sunday brunch, a bunch of bleary-eyed hipsters whose low-level energy can barely make it to pass the salt, sit slumped nearby. I go to bars where one hardly even hears the clink of glasses anymore. Where only an occasional shakeshakeshake of the cocktail shaker vibrates the air. I obviously lead a quiet life. And then I went to Bagatelle for brunch on Sunday.
I got there early, around 1ish, when things were pretty quiet. I mean normal. Amanda at the bar was super friendly and welcoming and made me a refreshing Bajon Groove cocktail to start off the day: Absolut Pear, coconut water, fresh lime juice, mint, Thai basil and a touch of falernum. Mmmmm, a bit too easy going down! Bagatelle has a comfortable summer-at-the-beach feel even though it’s miles from the ocean. Seemingly an army of staff run around wearing bright orangey-gold Veuve Clicquot polo shirts to make sure the place is running smoothly. Service is their mantra.
Come on, join me at my table in the lower seating area. Look! Adorable Veuve Clicquot pillows for my back! Wow, with the throbbing music, the high energy is contagious and everyone is styled to the teeth, sunglasses on heads (why is that a style again?), women bound with tight dresses up-to-there, long hair flowing down sinuous backs, guys all bright-eyed and bushy-tailed…it’s Party Time! As time rolls on, the music gets louder vibrating your every cell making it hard not to move with the beat. DJ Hem knows how to work it. Executive chef Robert Liberato serves up some very tasty dishes…especially the Lobster Benedict with a glass, or two, of Veuve Clicquot! As the champagne and booze flows, the partying kicks up a few notches and I was told that by late afternoon, people are dancing on the bar. Ooops, I think I just hit the sweet spot of craziness…time to leave!
Hey, it was totally fun to be in the middle of the action…at least for this once cause I lead a quiet life, remember?!
