With the inaugural Flo Beer Mile World Championship just over two weeks away, interest in the four-lap, four-beer race seems to be at an all-time high. Interest is particularly high in Austin, Texas, the city that will host the event, so it’s not too surprising that one of Austin’s most famous residents, banned cyclist Lance Armstrong, recently decided to try his hand at the event.

Jack Murray of Jack & Adam’s Bicycles told Flotrack in its video coverage of the event that he thought Armstrong had a shot at an age-group record. Armstrong, 43, would have had to break 5:51 to set a “super masters” (40+) record. (Yes, there are age-group records for the beer mile, but they are not your standard age groups.)

Armstrong’s attempt was short-lived, however, because after he chugged a beer, ran one lap well behind the leaders, and grabbed another beer, he dropped out. He was heard saying in the video of the time trial, “That was not what I expected.”
