No fuss this time as low-strength beer bill advances

The last time Colorado House members debate the expansion of beer sales, they engaged in a caustic floor debate on the topic for three hours before killing a bill.

On Thursday, there was so much unanimity on the subject that the House Business and Economic Development Committee passed a bill to expand such sales without even taking testimony.

Senate Bill 60, the final of three bills the Legislature will discuss on the subject of alcohol sales laws this session, is admittedly a different animal than two bills killed earlier this year. Whereas those efforts sought unsuccessfully to allow grocery and convenience stores to sell full-strength beer, this bill seeks just to allow bars, restaurants and breweries to sell low-strength beer.
