imagesWeight gain can come from excess calorie consumption, regardless of whether they come from beer or fatty foods, according to a study by British Beer and Pub Association.

Go ahead, belly up to the bar.

There is no proof beer causes weight gain quicker than most other food or drinks, a new study claims.

A bulging waistband is the result of calories consumed in excess, regardless of whether they came from beer or a bag of chips, a nutritionist wrote for — what else — the British Beer and Pub Association.

“Moderate beer consumption does not lead to weight gain or abdominal fatness and the perception that drinking beer results in a beer belly is not supported by the scientific evidence,” Kathryn O’Sullivan wrote.
