Beer saved my life: Man who fell into freezing cold sea survived ‘because eight pints slowed down his body’s reaction to the cold
- Unidentified swimmer jumped into the sea off Herne Bay, Kent
- He and another man were pulled to safety by police and coastguard
- Paramedics say the alcohol slowed down his reaction to the cold
Drinking beer before swimming is not a good idea but for one lucky man it saved his life.
The unidentified swimmer plunged into the freezing cold sea after a night out in Herne Bay, Kent, and had to be rescued by coastguards.
Rescuers say the eight cans he drunk slowed down his body’s reaction to the cold and prolonged his survival.
The victim was one of two men who were rescued by coastguards after stripping off and leaping into the waves following a night out on the town.
