When it comes to booze, the Democratic Party gets its biggest backing from wine companies while Republicans seem to have better luck from beer brewers, the Center for Responsive Politics reports in an analysis of campaign finance data.Read about the center’s report.
A top contributor to Democrats during the 2010 election cycle was E. & J. Gallo Winery. Individuals connected to the winery allocating more than $256,700 in the election cycle of which 93% went to Democrats, according to the center. The Gallo family have given $1.6 million to Democratic candidates during the past two decades, the center reports.
The center reports that Gallo winery employees are also a top donor to House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, Democrat of California, throughout her career.
Meanwhile, GOP, have some support from wineries, including Jackson Family Enterprises – which makes Kendall Jackson wine brand.
