Wow, this has got to be my favorite event that I’ve been to this year. I can’t see how it can be topped. So, George Dickel Tennessee Whisky and Serious BBQ guru, Adam Perry Lang, paired up to showcase their super delicious booze ‘n barbeque to a bunch of bloggers and online media folks. How did they do it? For a start, we were invited to view the taping of Jimmy Kimmel Live! from the VIP green room where tasty snacks were constantly available and Dickel Barrel Select was available at the bar. Have you had Dickel Barrel Select? You should. It’s totally sippable, easy to drink. Soon, the taping starts and all of a sudden there’s a commotion in the green room. OMG, it’s Bill Murray, followed by cameras, he jumps in behind the bar and starts pouring Ketel One vodka into a bunch of shot glasses and serves them to the guys at the bar. Then he takes the vodka bottle and pours it down the throat of the poor cameraman who really couldn’t do anything about it. But, fear not, it was only a few seconds. Bill, done with bartending, heads back to talk to Jimmy. How cool was that?!
We finally cross the ally to the backlot set up with Adam Perry Lang’s incredible BBQ oven that looks like a Rube Goldberg contraption. Inside are luscious slabs of meat napping over hot coals waiting for their debut. The area is designed to look like a country picnic area with a country bar serving kickass Dickel cocktails. (scroll down for pictures). Tennessee whisky hates to be called bourbon because it’s its own delicious expression of whisky…learn more here and get you some Dickel whisky to imbibe while you learn.
Dinner is being served. We sit at long picnic tables and each incredibly delectable course is paired with another delectable Dickel whisky. Doug Kragel, National George Dickel Ambassador, introduces each whisky with a great presentation. The whisky and food leave us sated and happy and content. Here’s a tip: Dickel Tennessee Whisky would make a great gift for the upcoming holiday season…one size fits all and everyone would be immensely grateful. And for the barbeque addicts, also give ‘em Adam Perry Lang’s fantastic book, Serious Barbeque. Read it while sipping your Dickel whisky and all will be right with the world.
The Dickel folks couldn’t have been nicer or more generous both with their lip-smackin’, delicious booze and Adam Perry Lang’s dinner was totally amazing. He’s opening a restaurant in downtown LA sometime next year. This is serious food and I can’t wait for him to open.
