New laws in four states make it legal to carry a gun (loaded or unloaded) into a bar or restaurant. In 20 other states, according to a recent New York Times review of laws, bringing a gun to a bar is legal “by default.” In the rest, the law is unclear. Wisconsin is one of only eight states where packing heat in a tavern is specifically outlawed – the others are Illinois, Ohio, North and South Carolina, California, Louisiana and Hawaii.
