Jan. 26 may sound like the distant future, but when it comes to some special events, there’s no such thing as too early to start planning. Case in point: The San Francisco Exploratorium’s explorations into the science of mixology. Tickets for the second annual Science of Cocktails celebration — slated for 7:30-11 p.m. Jan. 26, 2011 — go on sale Nov. 18. And the last time those creative lab rats hosted one of these events, it sold out almost instantly.
The Science of Cocktails is an in-depth, interactive adventure, for ages 21 and up, into the physics, chemistry and biology of spirits. The interactive part includes quirky lab workshops. Last year’s activities focused on the tastes of colors — blue bananas and purple orange juice, anyone? — as well as the intersection between taste and smell, and what happens when gummy bears and alcohol interact.
