Is nine months too long to be on the wagon? It might not even be nine months given that you’re already pregnant when you find out so it might be just eight months. This from a new study clinical study published by the American Academy of Pediatrics.
“The study said no amount of alcohol intake should be considered safe and there is no safe trimester to drink alcohol. It also said that all forms of alcohol – like beer, wine and liquor – pose similar risk and binge drinking poses dose-related risk to the developing fetus.” (source)
That said, it’s likely that you’ve had a drop or two while you were pregnant and your baby was fine. I remember my husband and I had been yukking it up with friends drinking gallons of Dom Perignon while unbeknownst to me, I was preggers. When I found out, I got scared. I stopped drinking alcohol immediately and worried that my son was okay as it was my first trimester. All was okay and I lasted all of eight months without a single drop until I gave in and finally had a sip or two of what everyone was saying was a fabulous chardonnay – twas at the dearly departed Chasen’s – at the very end. And worried some more. Baby Ben was perfect But I didn’t chance it with my second son and was dry the entire time. Have been making up for it since!
