Create Your Signature Ramos Gin Fizz!

Tales of the Cocktail in partnership with Tasting Panel Magazine invites you to submit a winning recipe for the Official Cocktail Competition of the 9th Annual Tales of the Cocktail.

For our ninth anniversary, we are shaking things up with our annual cocktail competition. If you think your skills are up to the challenge, we ask you to create a Ramos Gin Fizz that we can use as our official cocktail at this year’s event.

Invented 1888 by Henry C. Ramos, at the Imperial Cabinet Saloon in New Orleans, this is one of New Orleans’ most famous drinks. The secret of its flavor and texture is orange flower water and egg whites. When Huey P. Long was governor of Louisiana he brought with him to New York’s Roosevelt Hotel the bartender from the New Orleans Roosevelt to train the NYC bartenders on how to make a proper Ramos Gin Fizz, just so he could have his beloved New Orleans gin fizzes whenever he was in New York. Yeah, sure, every man a king …

For the 2011 Tales of the Cocktail official cocktail competition, we invite you to create an original Ramos Gin Fizz drink using Henry Ramo’s formula as your template.
