Now in its 10th year, Tales of the Cocktail® returns with another round of seminars, events, competitions, tastings, dinner pairings, workshops, excursions and more that are sure to shake up the cocktail industry. Individual event tickets and special packages are now on sale for Tales of the Cocktail® 2012, being held July 25-29 in New Orleans. There are a limited number of tickets available for each event, so attendees are encouraged to buy their tickets early online at TalesoftheCocktail.com.

Ann Tuennerman, Founder of Tales of the Cocktail®, believes, “As with years past, we expect that attendees will once again, comment on the exponential growth in this, our 10th year. Our goal in to continue to provide fresh and innovative content, much like Mr. Cocktail expects in his cocktails.”

With more than 200 events for both experts and amateurs alike, we will be making history during the five days of Tales of the Cocktail® 2012. For the historic 10th Anniversary celebration, this year’s schedule includes a host of new events including: Hand-Shaken Daiquiri Cocktail Competition; Street Food and Go-Cups; Spirited Luncheon with the Dame Hall of Fame; Tales of the Cocktail® Excursions, including swamp tours of the Louisiana swamps, pig butchering demonstrations, bike and garden tours; cocktails; new hands on seminars at the New Orleans Cooking School; music and more.

Prices range from $40 to $100 plus fees. Additional events go on sale Monday, April 30 including the themed Spirited Dinner® series with cocktail and cuisine pairings.

Tales of the Cocktail® Announces the 2012 Cocktail Apprentice Program Scholarship Recipients

 

Tales of the Cocktail®, the world’s premier cocktail festival which is approaching its milestone 10th anniversary, created the Cocktail Apprentice Program Scholarship funded with $25,000 in grants which is awarded to former Tales of the Cocktail® Cocktail Apprentice Team members.

“The Cocktail Apprentice Scholarship Program is one of many that result from our efforts with Tales of the Cocktail®, which provide continuing benefits to the Industry,” commented Paul G. Tuennerman, cofounder of Tales of the Cocktail®. “We recognize that these Programs provide a discerning point of differentiation and as such, we take tremendous pride in being able to provide for those in our Industry, in this unique manner.

Grants are given to past members through an extensive multi-step selection process. Recipients are funded for different projects ranging from expanding their experiences and careers in the cocktail and beverage industry to educating and supporting colleagues.

After the Tales of the Cocktail® 2011 celebration in New Orleans, former Cocktail Apprentices submitted applications to receive funding for a wide variety of projects such as book publications and the development of beverage education centers to educational excursions and creating digital historical recipe archives.

Bacardi 150th Anniversary USBG Hand-Shaken Daiquiri Competition

Competition Rules and Information

All recipes will be due by midnight on Monday, April 16, 2012

Location: New Orleans, LA
Date: Friday, July 27, 2012
Time: 7:30 PM to 10:00 PM with all competitors checking in at 10:00 AM

Hand-Shaken Daiquiri Drink Submission

  • Each recipe must contain at least 1 oz of Bacardi Superior (maximum 1.5oz). You may also choose to add Bacardi Gold, Bacardi Select, Bacardi 8, Bacardi Anejo, Bacardi OakHeart, Bacardi Dragon Berry, Bacardi Torched Cherry, Bacardi Rock Coconut and Bacardi Arctic Grape flavors. You may also choose to add liquors.  No other base spirits may be used as modifiers (Gin, Tequila, American/Scotch Whisky and Vodka).
  • There may be no more than 3 ounces of total alcohol in your recipe including rum and/or any other alcoholic ingredient.
  • Each chapter president will receive 2 sample bottles of a particular Bacardi product that is not in distribution in his/her market.
  • Recipes may not include more than six (6) ingredients and one (1) garnish including dashed, drops and grated toppings.
  • Foams, froths and house made ingredients are not “one ingredient”, but considered the sum of their parts.
  • A list of readily available ingredients will be provided for use at the final event in New Orleans.
  • The competitor must provide all unusual items.
  • If we are unable to secure your preferred brands, substitutes may be made with your prior approval.
  • Be mindful of what will be in season in New Orleans during the summer of 2012.
  • Whippers and chargers will need to be provided by the competitor.
  • Glassware options: Please bring your own glasses
  • Overall you must showcase your take on a Hand-Shaken Daiquiri.

DEADLINE TO ENTER MAY 8TH 2012

Entry Details:

  • Must be at least 25 years of age

  • Cocktail should use DRAMBUIE as the lead spirit and cocktail must not use more than 5 ingredients.
  • Homemade ingredients and pre-mixes such as simple syrups, bitters, etc. count as one ingredient.
  • Anything other than ice and garnishes count as an ingredient.
  • Recipe should include DRAMBUIE in the name.
  • Must submit recipe in ounces.
  • Specific brands must be listed in the ingredients.
  • Cocktail recipes must be submitted by May 8th 2012. All recipe submissions are final.
