Walmart, known for stocking everything from tires to clothing and televisions, wants to add wine to some of its Pennsylvania stores.

The nation’s largest discount retailer is planning to equip its Lower Nazareth Township store and 22 others with the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board’s self-serve wine kiosks.

Walmart says the move will bolster its shopping experience, but some experts warn it could hurt supermarkets, which have been the exclusive home to the state’s high-tech wine-vending machines.

“We believe the kiosk will provide our customers additional convenience and allow them to continue to count on Walmart for a wide range of their shopping needs,” said company spokesman Jason N. Klipa.

LCB spokeswoman Stacy Kriedeman said the machines could be in stores as early as this summer after the attorney general’s office reviews the plan.
