On Jan. 14 at 4 p.m., a group of winemakers and winery owners in Niagara, Ontario — all part of the Wine Council of Ontario — filled a massive flute with icewine at the Fallsview Casino Resort, while an official adjudicator from the Guinness Book of World Records.
And yes, the Canadians broke the last previous record, which was set by an Italian team in 2008.
Trivia: The glass that was used is about four feet tall. More than 30 people helped to fill it. It held 18 litres of icewine; the previous winning glass only held 16.5 litres. And yes, people had a chance to help drink the icewine afterward. (Wine writer Tony Aspler was the first to sample the vino after the glass was filled.)
