The Beer Chicks Beer-Pairing Dinner

How fun is it to learn about beer from The Beer Chicks – in person! and pair with a tasty menu of complementary dishes. The Beer Chicks are renowned beer sommeliers Christina Perozzi and Hallie Beaune, and the authors of The Naked Pint, a terrific book that covers beer from A -Z. The dinner was a benefit for What A Pair , an awesome organization that raises money for breast cancer research.
The dinner was at the Library Alehouse in Santa Monica – next time you’re in town, don’t miss it – in the back patio and it was a cool venue for kicking back. I went with my wasband, an avid beer aficianado and a man of great curiosity, and we noticed the crowd seemed to be people who might have been wine drinkers looking into what all the brouhaha is about craft beer. I don’t think they were disappointed.
So, here are the beers: Little Yella Pilsner, Weihenstephaner Hefeweizen, Allagash White, Ballast Point CalicoAmber, Bruery Tradewinds Tripel, Bear Republic Racer 5 IPA, Chimay Blue, Rodenbach Red and Maui CoCoNut Porter over vanilla ice cream. Swore I’d only taste it because I’m not a porter fan, but over ice cream, it was delicious and I couldn’t stop eating it. I’d had about half of the beers before, but food pairing takes on a whole different flava…yes, just like wine. The revelation to me was the Rodenbach – luscious, complex, slightly sour yet had a sweetness to it…unusual and delicious.
The Beer Chicks have another terrific event coming up The First Ever Los Angeles Craft Beer Crawl September 25. Sadly, I’ll be out of town, but I’ll catch the next one.
