A Pelican Brands investment group has finalized the purchase of Napa Smith Brewery & Winery. The investment group bought the business from Kathy Smith and Greg Cutuli, who opened the brewery and winery in 2007.

Pelican Brands, with headquarters in Indiana, manages a portfolio of import and craft beers, spirits and wines. Earlier this year, Napa Smith appointed Pelican Brands as its exclusive sales representatives in the United States.

Napa Smith is at 1 Executive Way in Napa, in the old Hakusan Sake Gardens at the corner of Highway 29 and Jamieson Canyon Road. Kathy Smith and Greg Cutuli were partners in 1 Executive Way LLC, the entity that owned the real estate and building that house the brewery and winery. 1 Executive Way LLC filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy on Sept. 22.

The property, which had also been in foreclosure, does not have a new owner yet.

“We believe whoever buys it will make a deal to lease it to us for the long term,” said J. Smoke Wallin, Chairman & CEO of Pelican Brands and Napa Smith Holdings.

“This acquisition is a great strategic fit combined with Pelican Brands. We look forward to building Napa Smith into an iconic craft beer brand with President Steve Morgan and Master Brewer Don Barkley,” Wallin said.

In 2010, Napa Smith expanded into 17 states, a news release said.
