IndustrySoaring sales of Scotch whisky have helped Pernod Ricard post sales growth of 10%, well above market expectations.
The French drinks giant said all three of its top whisky brands recorded double-digit sales growth for the first quarter of its financial year to September 30.
Sales of Ballantine’s were up 16% year-on-year, Chivas Regal up 14% and The Glenlivet 14% in organic growth terms, which excludes the effects of acquisitions or disposals and currency moves.
In volume terms Chivas was up 14%, Ballantine’s 11% and The Glen-livet 15%.
Pernod, the world’s second-largest drinks group, also noted “very strong growth” in sales of its Indian whiskies Royal Stag and Bolender’s Pride.
