Turkish tourism industry displeased with tax hike on alcohol

Turkish tourism industry representatives have strongly criticized a recent increase in the private consumption tax, or ÖTV, on alcoholic drinks.

Speaking at a recent meeting, Sururi Çorabatır, head of Mediterranean Tourism and Hoteliers Association, criticized the timing of the increase on the ÖTV.

“These product groups constitute an important expenditure in Turkey tourism sector based on all-inclusive system. Now the increase in ÖTV will make everything more difficult for us,” he said.
