vinegar-cocktail-recipes-erin-phraner“Give your cocktails a new kick this fall with a little splash of surprising! Speakeasy-style bars around the country are using tangy-sweet vinegars (store-bought and homemade) in their clever drink recipes. We figure it’s about time you master this easy cocktail trick, too! After all, the secret ingredient is hiding right in your pantry….”

MAKES: 1 drink

3 ounces applejack or bourbon

1 ounce apple cider

1/2 ounce apple cider vinegar

1/2 ounce lemon juice

1/2 ounce simple syrup

Apple slices, for garnish (optional)

1. Put the applejack, apple cider, apple cider vinegar, lemon juice and simple syrup in a cocktail shaker with ice; shake 1 minute.

2. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with an apple slice, if desired.

Serve this orchard-inspired cocktail after a day of apple picking. Cider vinegar gives it a slightly fermented, sour-apple flavor—you could say it’s our super-sophisticated take on an appletini! To make a party-size batch: Scale up measurements, chill all ingredients and stir together (sans the ice) in a pitcher.
