Bubbling and steaming, it looked like something from a witch’s cauldron. It certainly didn’t look like it would become the clear liquid destined for martini glasses throughout Wisconsin and the Twin Cities.
The liquor coming from 45th Parallel Spirits, a micro-distiller of vodka – which was brewing inside a 600-gallon stainless steel tank on a recent day – as well as gin and whiskey in the small western Wisconsin community of New Richmond, is not just the makings of fine cocktails. It’s also at the forefront of a growing phenomenon.
Apparently it’s happy hour for craft distillers in America.
