Best-Whiskey-in-the-World_Crown-Royal-Northern-Harvest-RyeOk, so Jim Murray, of Whisky Bible fame, released his 13th annual guide in November and, believe me, we were all surprised by his pick for this year’s top dog: 90-proof Crown Royal Northern Harvest Rye! While I’m a proud Canadian, Crown Royal isn’t the first rye that comes to mind when you’re looking for a kickass rye but, the Whisky Guru picked it, so who’s to argue?!

On the paradigm of accessible whiskies, last year’s pick, Yamazaki Sherry Cask 2013, was so rare as only 18,000 bottles were produced, it was gone before you could pop a cork but you can find this year’s pick in almost any corner liquor store. Was Murray’s ‘anointed’ this year a mea culpa for giving people apoplexy last year?

Give the Crown Royal a shot. What have you got to lose? It retails for less than $50 for 750ml.
