For the second straight year, the number of visitors who completed the Kentucky Bourbon Trail Passport program increased significantly, The Kentucky Distillers’ Association announced Thursday.

In 2010, more than 9,000 people completed the tour of all six distilleries that make up the Kentucky Bourbon Trail tour.

In 2009, 3,000 visitors completed the trail.

It was “an unbelievable achievement for our signature industry and our Commonwealth,” Eric Gregory, president of the Kentucky Distillers’ Association, said in a news release.

The association created the trail in 1999, and it coordinates the Kentucky Bourbon Trail tour. The tour features six distilleries, each offering an educational experience on the craft of bourbon making: Four Roses, Heaven Hill, Jim Beam, Maker’s Mark, Wild Turkey and Woodford Reserve.
