The back story: We all know about when Harry met Sally. But how about when tequila met Scotch? If the latter doesn’t sound familiar, that’s because it’s not. Tequila Herradura, a respected maker of Mexico’s signature spirit, believes it has come out with the first-ever version of a tequila that’s got a little of Scotland’s signature spirit in the mix. By that, the brand means this is a tequila that’s gone through two periods of aging — the first in charred American oak casks (which is traditional for tequila), the second in ex-Scotch casks — specifically, single-malt Scotch from the Highland and Islay regions. (“Reposado,” or “rested,” refers to the period of aging — in this case, 11 months during the initial oak-aging stage, followed by three months in the Scotch barrels. In general, reposado tequilas can be aged up to a year in oak.)
