The Scotch Whiskey Association (SWA), the trade Association for the Scotch Whiskey industry, has revealed the Scotch whiskey export statistics, which show that the exports of Scotch whiskey are booming.

The Scotland government cabinet secretary for rural affairs Richard Lochhead said the news that whiskey exports have rocketed by a quarter is absolutely phenomenal.

“The food and drink industry is at the heart of Scotland’s global reputation. And it is good to see that while the US remains the top market, the emerging markets are booming too.

“As we celebrate Scottish Food & Drink Fortnight, where we have already announced record growth figures for the industry as a whole, it is clear whiskey is leading the way with another record year – outstripping all trends and reaching new markets each year,” Lochhead said.

The 56 members of SWA account for more than 90% of production and sales of Scotch Whiskey. According to SWA, Scotch Whiskey, with annual exports in excess of £3bn, is one of the UK’s leading exports and supports thousands of jobs across the economy.
