“a woman walks into a bar…” Chilean wines at Chaya downtown

a woman walks into a bar..., Wine

woman-barfinal2Let’s just start here. Chilean wines rock! And you can thank Concha y Toro, one of the world’s three leading wine producers, and virtually a quarter of Chile’s total wine production, for that…so, kudos to Concha y Toro.

We were lucky to taste a range of  affordable, delicious Casillero del Diablo (“Stored in hell, made in heaven”) wines as well as some fabulous, higher end, but not out of reach, Marqués de Casa wines. It didn’t hurt that hot (interpret that anyway you want…they all apply) winemaker, Marcelo Papa talked us through the tasting at Chaya downtown which also did a great job of food pairing.

We tasted six wines:
Casillero del Diablo Coastal White 2012
Casillero del Diablo Winemakers Red blend 2011
Marqués de Casa Concha Chardonnay 2011
Marqués de Casa Concha Carmenere 2011
Marqués de Casa Concha Cabernet Sauvignon 2011
Concha y toro Late Harvest 2009

Any one of these wines would be more than welcome at the table. Chilean wines are a fantastic value, with quality never compromised, so look for them at your wine store or ask for them.
