The San Francisco Chronicle Recommends: German Riesling

The 2009 Rieslings are just now arriving in the market, so many of these wines will be appearing during the course of the month. In our tasting of about 50 wines, we primarily focused on Kabinett- and Spatlese-level bottles, both dry and sweet, which are the most approachable in the near term. That said, 2009’s late-harvest Auslese wines are increasingly considered the star of the vintage, so keep an eye out.

Speaking of which: The eagle-eyed may notice a slight change to some labels, a further twist to Germany’s already labyrinthine labeling.
