Field Report and Strategies for Dealing With an Unpredictable 2010:
Flavors are leading the way. Though we still have very high acid and some greenness/astringency out there, flavors overall are ahead of where their brixes and acid analyses indicate they should be.
However, in Sonoma County, elevated vigor in some canopies from the late rains means that high pyrazine varietals (like Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc) will still require additional maturity to allow pyrazine levels to drop. The question is, between weather events and high microbial load, will we have the time?
