Booze News

Make mine a large one!  A giant pint glass has been spotted growing in a Scottish Borders barley field.

A microbrewery has carved a giant pint glass, inspired by crop circles, into one of its barley fields.

The design occupies a prominent position at the foot of the Eildon Hills near the Ancrum home of the Scottish Borders Brewery.

The move coincides with the brewery’s sale of its 500th cask since it started brewing three months ago.

Bosses said they also wanted to highlight the fact that their two cask ales are brewed in the same place where the crops are grown and harvested.

As the barley grows, photographs of the “pint” will be posted on the brewery’s Facebook page, with plans for the images to be used in a time-lapse film.

Brewery owner John Henderson said: “As a new business we have been fortunate to have enjoyed really strong support from both publicans and ale drinkers, both of whom seem to be enjoying our products.

“I thought a pint glass crop circle would be a great way to draw attention to our plough-to-pint ethos and we hope it will create a talking point for people who see it in the field.”
