Winners Announced for Blue Angel Bartender/Mixologist Contest

on 05/01/11 at 10:54 pm

San Francisco “BAMBASSADORS” produce three winning online videos.

The Tasting Panel Magazine, the authoritative publication of the wine and spirits business, has chosen three winners in its inaugural on-premise contest, “HOW DO YOU BAM?” featuring ultra-premium Blue Angel Vodka’s signature drink, the “BAM”—Blue Angel Martini. In the contest, San Francisco bartenders and mixologists—“BAMbassadors”—uploaded self-produced videos showing how they made a BAM to youtube.com/blueangelvodka. The top three most-watched videos won prizes of money, wheels and fame.

Today, The Tasting Panel has announced the official winners: Adam “5100” Feibleman of SOMA bar 330 Ritch takes home the grand prize package: $1000 plus a shiny new 150cc Argo Scooter and a profile in the January 2011 issue of the magazine. His video shows one way to obtain a Blue Angel Martini: pray for it; the video garnered 7,000 views. Second prize winner is Mike “Vegas” Levin of Union Square district Infusion Lounge, who won $500 for his atmospheric video featuring the bottle, which got more than 6,000 views. Thomas Barrett Mich of the Rosewood Bar in North Beach took third place, winning $250 for his
whimsical video, “What Dreams Are Made Of,” chronicling one Alcatraz inmate’s pursuit of his dream cocktail, which received more than 5,000 views.

To inspire the competition, Blue Angel’s ad agency, Medicine Agency of San Francisco, recruited five different emerging film and video directors to show how they BAM. All five teams received the exact same instructions, but delivered five VERY different results. The videos feature pro skater Brandon Biebel with Wing Ko by Cole Mathews and Ira Ingram; artist Mike Giant with Sean Desmond; artist Donny Miller; The Werehaus; and Finktoons with Red Hunter from Peter and the Wolf. The five films were posted on dozens of web sites around the world.

“The films these bartenders and mixologists created were simply incredible—they show our contestants have prodigious hidden talents,” enthused James Eason, Blue Angel’s COO. “And while we congratulate our three prize winners, we salute everyone who took the time and effort to create these films—they all impressed us with their creativity and quality.”
